Flexible Treatment That Fits Your Life
Although all recovery programs require dedication, they don’t always require you to put your life on hold while you do the work.
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is one of those flexible options. IOP provides structured, clinically based treatment for both mental health and addiction that allows you to continue managing your daily obligations while participating in recovery. IOP is one of the most effective and accessible methods of care available and, for many people, is often the best place to perform the in-depth work needed to recover.
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured outpatient program that has significantly more clinical support than standard weekly outpatient therapy, without the requirement of inpatient or residential care.[1] This program has clients attending treatment three to five days a week, often for several hours, and then returning to their homes or sober living after each session.
IOP sits between a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and traditional outpatient care on the continuum of care. IOP is often a step down for clients graduating from PHP or residential treatment, and is also a primary level of care for those whose substance use disorder needs consistent support, but is not severe enough to require a more intensive hospital-based program.
At All In Solutions, our IOP is specifically tailored to your needs with a combination of evidence-based treatment, medication assistance (when clinically necessary), and group support that creates a long-term recovery community.
IOP is a flexible and effective way of treating many different people at different stages of their recovery. Joining an IOP is often the best solution for:
If you do not know if IOP is right for you, a member of our admissions team will complete a clinical assessment and provide you with a referral for the most appropriate treatment based on your specific needs.
Unlike in a full residential setting, PHP allows clients to begin applying their learned recovery skills to their everyday lives. Clients in our PHP program return to their living settings, either home or sober living, after treatment each day, which allows the recovery skills being learned and developed, such as coping skills, relapse prevention strategies, and life skills, to be tested and applied in real time.
This is not a by-product of the PHP structure, but rather a core therapeutic benefit of it. Clients who continue to practice recovery skills and manage triggers in non-clinical environments are better prepared for successful long-term sobriety.[4] This is achieved through the consistency of daily intensive treatment while also progressively developing their ability to be independent.
IOP treatment at All In Solutions is designed for the real world while providing you with a complete clinical experience. Each week, clients participate in multiple different types of therapy as well as skills training and recovery work based on their personal recovery plan.
Services are tailored to each client, but may include:
All IOP programs incorporate evidence-based modalities that have been proven to work with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which teaches clients to identify and change the thought processes that fuel their addiction, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), which enhances one’s ability to tolerate distress and regulate their mood and emotions.[2] [3] Other evidence-based methods that have been customized further based on the client’s treatment plan are also used.
Clients that require psychiatric support or medication-assisted treatment (MAT) will receive ongoing medication management throughout our IOP program. Medications for opioid dependency, alcohol addiction, or co-occurring mood disorders are incorporated into the overall treatment plan instead of being managed separately, allowing for a coordinated, holistic approach to care.
Because addiction impacts all family members, recovering with support from the family is stronger. In our IOP programs, family therapy sessions are available to give families tools for supporting recovery in healthy ways, establishing healthy boundaries, and addressing addiction under professional guidance.
Many clients entering IOP have co-occurring disorders such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and other mental health disorders that are connected to and often motivate substance use.[4] Our IOP programs address these disorders at the same time, as mental health treatment is not a separate track but integrated into all aspects of the IOP program. All clinicians providing support maintain training in dual diagnosis care.
IOP is most effective when it is seen as part of the whole continuum of care rather than a standalone treatment.[5] For clients stepping down from PHP or a residential treatment center, IOP represents the next step of their journey from a higher level of care, a time to implement the tools learned in higher levels of care to real-life situations.
For clients entering IOP as their primary level of care, the program is an opportunity for structured clinical support for recovery to take place without having to withdraw totally from daily responsibilities. In either case, the continuum of care is designed to help clients build their independence through a step-down model in which inpatient or PHP is provided prior to IOP, then progressed to aftercare and outpatient services to help clients gradually build their confidence and skills to sustain sobriety independently.
Transitions between levels of care at All In Solutions are coordinated very carefully. If a client’s needs change during IOP, such as needing to step up to PHP or being ready for aftercare and sober living, the clinical team will take action to ensure that the client receives the care best suited to them, regardless of the change.
One of the unique benefits of IOP is the ability to practice recovery in the real world. Clients in IOP are navigating day-to-day pressures, triggers, and relationships between sessions, so the coping skills and relapse prevention tools they have learned are tested and applied as soon as they occur.
This ability to live life using their coping skills is not coincidental but one of the primary therapeutic benefits of IOP. Clients learn to identify potential high-risk situations, create a personalized relapse prevention plan, and develop life skills such as communication, stress management, routine, and self-awareness that create a sustainable basis for long-term sobriety after completing structured treatment.

IOP programs typically offer programming 3 to 5 days a week, for 3 to 4 hours each day. The exact schedule is determined by the local site and based in part on your clinical assessment. Please contact our admissions team to inquire about specific scheduling details.
The primary difference is that clients attending PHP typically attend 5 to 6 hours a day for 5 days a week and receive a higher level of clinical support than clients attending IOP, who are ready to regain independent living while still participating in structured programs with regular treatment. Clients can transition from PHP to IOP as part of a planned step-down process.
Yes. IOP is designed for those that need to continue with their daily lives, including work, school, and family obligations. Our admissions team can help you identify a schedule that accommodates your lifestyle.
Yes. All In Solutions IOP provides integrated treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders. Mental health services are an integral component of All In Solutions treatment and are not considered an optional service.
Completing IOP is a huge accomplishment. After IOP, most clients will transition into an aftercare plan that may consist of outpatient therapy, support groups, sober living arrangements, and alumni activities. Our clinical staff works with each client throughout IOP to develop a clear action plan outlining their next steps following completion.
Taking the next step doesn’t have to mean stepping away from your life. Our admissions team is available around the clock to answer your questions, verify your insurance, and help you find the IOP schedule and location that works for you.
